As the potential ban of TikTok looms in the U.S., hundreds of thousands of new users have flocked to Rednote, a Chinese-made social network. Sources told Reuters that this lesser-known network is trying to capitalize on the possibility of TikTok’s ban in the U.S. while cautiously managing English content on the platform.

On Monday, over 50,000 American and Chinese users engaged in a live chat room titled “TikTok Migrants” on Rednote. In this room, Chinese users welcomed American users and discussed topics ranging from food to youth unemployment.

Rednote, known as Xiaohongshu in China, topped the U.S. download rankings this week. American users see Rednote as an alternative to TikTok, which may be banned in the United States on January 19.
