Al-Mersad, a media outlet close to Taliban intelligence, has rejected the US claim about the arrest of the main mastermind behind the deadly attack at Kabul Airport’s Abbey Gate. The outlet emphasized that Mohammad Sharif Jafar was merely an ordinary member of ISIS-Khorasan.
According to Al-Mersad, Jafar had fled to Pakistan following security pressures from the Taliban. The media outlet claimed that the main planners of the attack were two senior ISIS-K members who were killed by the Taliban in 2023.
This comes as Donald Trump, the US President, recently announced the arrest of the Kabul airport attack planner in Pakistan. Experts consider this arrest as an indication of ISIS-K’s operational centers shifting to Pakistan.
