The Daily Telegraph newspaper has published a report warning that cooperation between the United States and the Taliban to counter ISIS is a serious mistake. Security researcher James Snell emphasized that such collaboration will only strengthen extremist groups. According to him: “The Taliban cannot even protect themselves against ISIS, so we cannot rely on them to defend us against terrorists.”
Snell also stated that the Taliban regime itself has been a factor in ISIS’s growth in Afghanistan and should not be trusted as an ally against terrorism. He referenced Ayman al-Zawahiri’s safe haven in Kabul following the collapse of the previous government, saying: “The Taliban has once again invited terrorist groups into Afghanistan.”
The report also raised serious concerns about the normalization of US-Taliban relations, including American delegations visiting Kabul which has worried experts. The Daily Telegraph has called for greater caution in this area, warning that such collaborations could have severe consequences. The newspaper emphasized the need for a more thoughtful approach to counter-terrorism strategies in the region.
