The Independent Coalition of Afghan Women’s Protest Movements has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the “Mosaic” plan proposed by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). The coalition considers this plan a continuation of the failed Doha negotiations process, which was conducted without genuine public and women’s participation and led to the Taliban group’s return.
The protesting women sang songs and chanted “bread, work, freedom” while carrying pictures of Abida, a victim of Taliban oppression. They emphasized that the plan ignores women’s position and human rights issues, while excluding Afghan people as the main stakeholders in the dialogue.
The women’s coalition has called on UNAMA to provide transparency regarding the plan details, guarantee women’s central role, and avoid any political process without public consent. They have warned that if these demands are ignored, they will consider the plan non-transparent and lacking legitimacy.
