General Hibatullah Alizai, former Chief of Staff of the Afghanistan Army, has stated in an interview with Longwar Journal that the Taliban group has filled its prisons with officers and military personnel from the previous government.

He emphasized that these former soldiers are being arrested, tortured, and imprisoned on charges of membership in opposition fronts.

Mr. Alizai stressed that prisons in Helmand, Kandahar, northern regions, Ghazni, Nangarhar, and Kunar provinces are full of former security forces.

He also expressed concern about the situation of former military personnel who have been deported from Iran and Pakistan, saying these individuals face threats, detention, and torture from the Taliban group.

In another part of his remarks, General Alizai warned that Al-Qaeda and ISIS groups have strengthened in Afghanistan and continue their activities.

These statements come as human rights organizations have previously reported violations of the Taliban’s declared general amnesty and the detention and torture of former security forces.
