Aamir Khan, the Bollywood superstar, announced on Tuesday, July 29 at a five-star hotel in Mumbai that his recent hit film “Sitaare Zameen Par” will not release on any OTT platform after completing its theatrical run.
Instead, the film will be available from August 1 on his YouTube channel, “Aamir Khan Talkies,” on a pay-per-view basis for Rs. 100.
Khan explained that YouTube has the largest penetration among online video platforms in India, and with the rise of UPI, electronic payments have become easier for the masses. He also revealed that he rejected an offer of Rs. 125 crores from Netflix, saying, “I don’t want Rs. 125 crore from OTT platforms.
I want Rs. 100 from the common people of our country.”
Aamir Khan stated that exclusive deals with OTT platforms harm the cinema industry in the long run.
He said, “Such a deal will benefit only me. I can’t do it. It’ll affect the industry in the long run.” This innovative approach to digital distribution marks a significant shift in how major Bollywood releases might reach audiences in the future.
