Rahila Dostum, former senator and daughter of Abdul Rashid Dostum, has strongly condemned the Taliban’s destruction of Amir Ali-Shir Nava’i statue in Mazar-e-Sharif.

In a post on X social network, she described this action as “a symbol of Taliban’s hostility toward the country’s cultural heritage” and “an insult to the shared identity of Afghanistan’s ethnic groups.”

Rahila Dostum stated that “the destruction of Amir Ali-Shir Nava’i statue by the Taliban is a heinous anti-cultural act demonstrating this group’s hostility toward the civilizational and historical heritage of the region.

” She called on the international community to take a position against this Taliban action. She also warned that such actions only increase public hatred and disgust toward the Taliban.

Previously, several civil and social associations of Afghan Turks had also condemned the complete destruction of Ali-Shir Nava’i statue, describing it as a continuation of the Taliban’s “anti-cultural and identity-erasing” policies.

The Taliban group has a history of destroying other urban symbols, including the destruction of the square and statue of Abdul Ali Mazari, founder of the Islamic Unity Party in western Kabul last year.
