London police announced that Jonathan Carl, a 42-year-old British man, deliberately infected several people with HIV after having sexual relations with approximately 400 men between 2019 and 2023.
The man, who used dating applications to find his victims, was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
The Metropolitan Police investigation began after complaints from two victims in 2022 and 2023, but further investigations revealed that the number of potential victims was much higher than initially thought.
So far, 82 victims have been contacted, and some of them have confirmed being HIV positive after testing.
Police investigations have shown that more than 300 other people may still be unaware of this “sexual predator’s” actions.
One of the case investigators expressed serious concern about the health of those who have not yet been identified and may have been infected with the AIDS virus.
