Mohammad Agha Hakim, Taliban governor of Panjshir province, has confirmed that due to geographical structure and security threats, the Taliban’s military presence in Panjshir province is very extensive.
He called Panjshir residents and former Afghan military personnel “rebel circles” and said that for this reason, the Taliban has strengthened its military presence.
The Taliban governor added that under this group’s rule, demand for housing rent in Panjshir has increased dramatically.
Local sources say the Taliban group uses some civilian houses and gardens as headquarters. Taliban forces also strictly control Panjshir province entrances and have implemented night curfews.
After the collapse of Afghanistan’s previous government in August 2021, Ahmad Massoud formed a military resistance front against the Taliban.
The Taliban group has deployed thousands of troops and military equipment to Panjshir to suppress this front. This extensive military presence has caused residents of Panjshir to live with worry and fear.
