Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman has ordered that a major street in Riyadh be named after the late Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh, former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars The directive was issued on Tuesday, September 30th.


Sheikh Abdulaziz, who passed away on September 23rd, served as Grand Mufti for over two decades and was head of the Council of Senior Scholars. Appointed Grand Mufti in June 1999, he played a pivotal role in modernizing traditional Islamic education while maintaining adherence to Shariah principles.


This decision recognizes Sheikh Abdulaziz’s distinguished scholarly stature and his significant contributions to the Kingdom, Islam, and the wider Muslim community The Riyadh Mayoralty has completed the installation of street signboards bearing the name of the late Grand Mufti.
