Pope Leo XIV blessed a large block of ice at the international “Raising Hope for Climate Justice” conference in Castel Gandolfo, Italy.
This symbolic gesture took place during the 10th anniversary celebration of Pope Francis’ environmental encyclical “Laudato Si”.
The American-born pontiff criticized climate change skeptics, saying some “ridicule those who speak of global warming”.
Pope Leo called on people worldwide to pressure governments to take action on environmental protection. He emphasized that damaging the natural world is incompatible with Christian faith.
These remarks came after US President Donald Trump recently called climate change a “con job”.
Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also participated in the conference, calling the Pope a real “action hero”.
The event took place one month before COP30 in Brazil.
