New findings from the United Nations Development Programme show that 64.9% of Afghanistan’s population lives in multidimensional poverty.
Additionally, 19.9% of the country’s population is at risk of falling below the poverty line.
 Afghanistan’s multidimensional poverty index value was announced at 0.360, significantly higher than the South Asian regional average.
The intensity of deprivation in Afghanistan has been reported at 55.5%. 
This means that poor people in this country, on average, suffer from deprivation in more than half of the weighted indicators being measured.
The biggest factor of poverty in Afghanistan is “living standards” which constitutes 42.5% of total deprivation.
The UN report emphasizes that multi-sectoral responses in policymaking are urgent and necessary. 
The organization warned that without integrated and targeted actions, millions will remain at risk of being trapped in generational poverty.
Multidimensional poverty is not limited to lack of income, but measures simultaneous deprivation in several key dimensions of life.
