Pakistani media have reported that the Punjab government has detained hundreds of Afghans for illegal residence.
Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of this province, has ordered officials to broadcast public announcements through mosques to identify illegal Afghans.
According to reports, a reward of 10,000 rupees has been set for reporting each undocumented refugee.
Police have also been instructed to file criminal cases against those who rent houses or properties to Afghans.
These measures come as the deportation process of undocumented Afghan refugees has continued since 2023.
Throughout Punjab province, 45 detention centers have been established for Afghan citizens, which according to officials, provide temporary accommodation, food and transportation to the Torkham crossing for illegal Afghan residents.
The crackdown has intensified following border tensions between Taliban and Pakistani forces along the Durand Line.
