Nasir Andisha, Afghanistan’s ambassador in Geneva, asserts that the Taliban failed to gain legitimacy or satisfy allies in 2025, describing the year as one of isolation and strategic errors.
In a recent article, he noted that even Russia’s limited recognition did not lead to broader international support for the group.
Andisha argues that engagement from countries like India, China, and Iran remains cautious and security-focused, hampered by concerns over terrorism and border disputes. He highlights that relations with Central Asia are also strained due to mistrust.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of diplomatic progress and numerous foreign trips by their officials, Andisha maintains that the regime’s influence is eroding. He points to unresolved issues like water rights and border security as major hurdles.
