Mohammad Taher Ahrar, a senior official in the Taliban Ministry of Defense, has publicly called for the establishment of an “Islamic system” in Pakistan, claiming the current government lacks knowledge of Sharia law.

He stated that the “ruling regime must be changed by the power of the people” to implement true Islamic principles.

These remarks align with the goals of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has intensified its insurgency seeking similar changes. Analysts suggest the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan has emboldened militant groups across the border.

Tensions between the two neighbors have escalated recently, with Pakistan’s Defense Minister stating he has “no trust” in the Afghan Taliban. In response, the Taliban administration rejected Islamabad’s accusations and questioned the legitimacy of Pakistan’s criticisms.
