The Hindu reports that Noor Ahmad Noor, a senior Taliban official, has arrived in New Delhi to take over as the Chargé d’Affaires of the Afghan Embassy.

This development highlights a significant warming of ties between India and the Taliban administration recently.

The appointment follows an understanding reached during Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India in October 2025.

Although not yet officially announced by Kabul, Noor is expected to commence his duties in the coming days, succeeding previous failed attempts to install a representative.

While India has not formally recognized the Taliban, it has expanded working relations since reopening its technical mission in Kabul.

The tricolor flag of the former republic currently remains at the embassy, though changes may occur as the Taliban representative takes charge.
