The Taliban Ministry of Industry and Commerce reports a drastic 40% decline in trade volume between Afghanistan and Pakistan for the year 2025.

Total trade value dropped to $1.76 billion, down from nearly $2.5 billion the previous year.

Spokesperson Abdulsalam Jawad attributed this slump to the prolonged closure of border crossings resulting from political and security tensions.

Afghan exports specifically saw a sharp decrease, falling from $817 million to $505 million.

This significant downturn highlights the economic cost of border disputes.

Traders on both sides have suffered, and despite the urgent need for economic activity, key crossings remain unreliable or closed.
