Zalmay Khalilzad, former US envoy, has stated that President Trump’s warnings to Iranian leaders regarding the protests are serious and should not be dismissed as political rhetoric.
He noted that Trump has twice explicitly warned against using lethal violence on protesters.
Writing on X, Khalilzad observed that the Iranian public has welcomed these messages.
Citing Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he emphasized that when the US speaks of a “heavy price,” it implies readiness for action, warning Ayatollah Khamenei against miscalculation.
Khalilzad also cautioned that any intervention by Iraqi militias to suppress Iranian protesters would face severe consequences.
He concluded that standing against a population demanding freedom is a historically wrong choice for the regime.
