Marking the International Day of Education, the EU Delegation in Afghanistan reaffirmed its commitment to investing in the country’s education sector. They emphasized ensuring that every Afghan child has access to quality and safe learning environments.
The EU detailed significant financial contributions, including €25 million via UNICEF to protect schools and support teachers, and €20 million to the World Food Programme for school feeding initiatives. Additional funds are directed toward literacy for adults and aiding out-of-school children.
These pledges arrive at a critical time when the ban on girls’ education above grade six remains in force. The EU aims to mitigate the crisis by supporting alternative pathways and essential services for vulnerable students and educators.
