The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has released a concerning report highlighting the fragile economic status of women in Afghanistan. Released on Tuesday, February 10, the data reveals that access to financial resources and jobs for women is severely restricted, with 75% of the population facing insecurity in meeting daily needs.
The report specifically notes that 88% of female-headed households are deprived of even the most basic life necessities. The disparity in employment is stark: only 7% of women work outside the home, compared to 84% of men, illustrating the massive gender gap in the workforce under the current administration.
This economic exclusion has pushed Afghan women further into poverty and vulnerability. The ongoing restrictions on female employment are not only devastating individual households but are also exacerbating the broader humanitarian crisis gripping the country.
