Iranian authorities have announced the transfer of 162 Afghan prisoners back to their home country. These individuals were handed over to the Taliban government under a mutual agreement for the transfer of convicts. They will serve the remainder of their sentences in Afghanistan.

Askar Jalalian, an official at the Iranian Ministry of Justice, stated that most of the transferred inmates were convicted of drug-related offenses. This move is part of the eleventh phase of an ongoing prisoner transfer initiative between the two sides.

Reports indicate that hundreds of Afghan prisoners have already been sent back after receiving pardons during various religious and national holidays. This process aims to manage prison populations while allowing convicts to return to their native land.
