The United States sanctioned the judge last year due to her handling of cases involving alleged crimes by US soldiers in Afghanistan.
The judge has asked a New York court to lift sanctions that have blocked her use of credit cards. France has criticized the sanctioning of the judge, but Canada had not previously taken a similar public stance.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated Washington is working to dismantle the ICC and has urged US allies to withdraw from it. The ICC has not formally charged or investigated any American citizen to date.
