German broadcaster NDR has revealed that a three-member Taliban delegation has traveled to Germany and is set to stay for three weeks. The mission was kept secret from the German public until now.
The delegation arrived last Wednesday after stopping in Qatar, where they received 30-day visas from the German embassy. They are currently staying at the Afghan embassy in Berlin's Grunewald district and plan to visit Bonn and Munich as well.
Germany's Foreign Ministry confirmed the delegation's presence, stating the mission is linked to increasing deportations of Afghan nationals. Human rights advocates have condemned the move, calling it a "whitewashing" of the Taliban regime.
