Afghanistan's electricity company DABS (Breshna) announced that electricity imported from Turkmenistan has been cut off due to technical problems on the Turkmen side. As a result, power supply to the provinces of Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab, Badghis, Herat, and Samangan has been disrupted.
Residents of several of these provinces confirmed that the Turkmen power supply was cut off from Sunday afternoon. DABS said it is coordinating with Turkmenistan's electricity authority to resolve the issue.
Afghanistan imports a large portion of its electricity needs from neighboring countries, and frequent power outages plunge various provinces into darkness.
