Taliban-controlled Afghan Post chief Rahmatullah Maki and Iran Post chief Mohammad Ahmadi discussed expanding postal cooperation and e-commerce. The Taliban said a delegation from Afghan Post will soon travel to Iran.
Topics included facilitating air and land transit between Afghanistan and Iran and expanding trade exchanges. The Taliban is trying to reduce its trade dependence on Pakistan and develop alternative routes through Iran and Chabahar port.
Afghanistan-Iran trade has at times surpassed trade with Pakistan. Iran National Post has stated that cross-border e-commerce with neighboring countries is a strategic goal.
