U.S. President Donald Trump has responded to the recent protests and unrest in France by calling for stricter immigration laws and the closure of borders. He claimed that the ongoing turmoil in the country is directly linked to immigration.
In a statement, Trump asserted that France must tighten its immigration policies. This contrasts with the position of French officials, who have blamed the violence on far-left extremist groups and looters, rather than on immigrants.
The comments come as France has been rocked by large-scale demonstrations. According to France's Interior Ministry, around 550,000 people participated in the protests, while organizers put the figure at 800,000. During the unrest, over 1,800 people have been arrested.
French authorities also reported that more than 500 police officers, gendarmes, and firefighters were injured in the clashes, indicating the high level of violence during the demonstrations.
Trump's intervention in European domestic affairs is not new. During his presidency, he frequently commented on the immigration policies of European nations, often urging them to adopt a tougher stance.
Critics accuse Trump of using the crisis in France to advance his own anti-immigration political agenda. His supporters, however, argue that he is highlighting a real problem that many European leaders are reluctant to address.
