The Taliban's Ministry of Finance has rejected recent reports suggesting a delay in the payment of salaries to government employees, calling the claims baseless.

In a statement released on Monday, October 26, the ministry asserted that "rumors about delays in salary payments are incorrect." The statement sought to reassure citizens and public sector workers that salaries will be paid on time, following the usual procedure and without any issues.

This denial comes amid conflicting accounts from sources within government departments under Taliban control. According to these sources, financial offices in all provinces have been instructed to halt the payment of salaries for both civilian and military personnel "until further notice."

A source from the finance department of one government agency told the Etilaat Roz newspaper yesterday that this directive came directly from Kabul. Furthermore, another source within the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the transfer of government employee salaries has been postponed until at least the tenth day of the current month, Aqrab.

The source added that the reason for this delay has not yet been clarified, and Taliban officials have not provided any explanation on the matter. This situation has caused widespread concern among government employees who depend on these salaries for their livelihood.

This is not the first time the Taliban administration has faced such issues. Since returning to power in August 2021, the payment of government salaries has been delayed on several occasions. In some past instances, budget shortages were cited as the primary reason for the delays. The contradiction between the finance ministry's official statement and reports from internal sources fuels uncertainty about the financial stability of the Taliban government.
