Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid welcomed remarks by Syed Hassan Mortazawi, Iran's deputy ambassador in Kabul, who stated that the armed opposition's fight against the Taliban is "not resistance" and that Iran does not support any anti-Taliban group.
Mujahid said in an audio message that the comments proved "Iran's position is the position of the Afghan people," adding that those who cause "disorder" and fuel insecurity stand condemned.
The Iranian deputy envoy had advised Taliban opponents to "sit down and resolve their issues together," while acknowledging Iran is dissatisfied with some issues in Afghanistan but does not interfere.
