UNAMA has reported that nearly one-third of Afghanistan’s population lacks access to safe drinking water.
According to the statement released by this organization on Sunday, June 15, 2025, more than 10 million people are using unsafe and insecure water sources.
This United Nations-affiliated organization added that despite some progress, this crisis continues to put significant pressure on rural areas, especially on women and children.
UNAMA emphasized its commitment to rebuilding and restoring water infrastructure that has been destroyed due to war and drought.
It’s worth noting that the Japan Times had previously warned in a report titled “Kabul is losing the battle against water shortage” that the situation in Afghanistan’s capital is clearly worsening.
Experts have predicted that if no action is taken to preserve Kabul’s groundwater resources, there will be no groundwater left in the city by 2030.
