Nada Al-Nashif, UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, warned during the 59th session of the Human Rights Council held on Monday, June 16, 2025, that the most extreme forms of gender discrimination are becoming institutionalized in Afghanistan.

She expressed grave concern that women have been completely erased from social life and deprived of their most fundamental rights, including education, employment, and healthcare services.

Al-Nashif also highlighted that women’s access to justice has become extremely difficult, with women being targeted based on ethnicity, religion, and gender. Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, similarly cautioned about the Taliban group’s systematic removal of women from society during the same meeting.

At this gathering, representatives from more than ten countries strongly condemned the restrictions imposed by the Taliban and demanded accountability from the group.

Various nations emphasized that the human rights situation of Afghan women requires serious attention from the international community to prevent further deterioration.
