NAI, the organization supporting free media in Afghanistan, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, expressed concern about the situation of Afghan journalists stranded in Iran and called for their transfer to a third country.
In a statement, the organization said that in addition to Israeli missile threats, a wave of anti-Afghan sentiment is forming in Iran.
NAI has called on United Nations offices and human rights organizations to facilitate the safe transfer of these journalists to another country.
The organization also emphasized that the return of journalists to Afghanistan would be accompanied by threats from the Taliban group.
It is worth noting that at least two Afghan citizens have been killed following Israeli airstrikes on Iran. After the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, many journalists fled to neighboring countries fearing persecution by the Taliban group.
This recent development has added to the ongoing concerns about the safety of Afghan media professionals living abroad.
