Yossi Cohen, former Mossad chief, revealed in his new memoir “Sword of Freedom” that Putin personally authorized Israeli airstrikes in Syria against Iranian weapons transfers to Hezbollah Lebanon.
Cohen successfully obtained Putin’s green light after traveling to Moscow and presenting direct arguments for the Israeli operations.
After accepting Israel’s rationale for strikes against Iranian and Hezbollah operatives in Syria, Putin proposed establishing a direct channel between Russian and Israeli armies to prevent misunderstandings.
This approval for attacks on Russian partners’ interests was crucial, as Russians control S-300 and S-400 air defense systems capable of targeting aircraft up to 30 kilometers altitude.
Cohen noted that Israel didn’t want to risk its fighter jets, including F-35 aircraft. This revelation demonstrates the complex relationships between major powers in the Middle East region, where strategic interests sometimes override traditional alliances.
