The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) announced that at least 17 civilians were killed and 346 wounded in intense border clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani forces in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province.

The organization said credible reports indicate extensive civilian casualties, including women and children, in one of the deadliest border conflicts in recent years.
UNAMA added that violence peaked on Wednesday, October 16th, with Spin Boldak witnessing the highest casualties on Afghan soil.

This conflict is part of a new wave of border tensions that began on October 10th and has caused heavy casualties in several provinces.

The international body, while welcoming the ceasefire announcement between the Taliban and Pakistan, emphasized the need to establish a sustainable solution to end the violence.

UNAMA also reported civilian casualties in other areas, stating that in previous border clashes in Paktika, Paktia, Kunar, and Helmand provinces, at least 1 person was killed and 15 others wounded.
