A report by 8am newspaper reveals that the Taliban group has set salaries up to 360,000 Afghanis for officials of state-owned companies under their control, while ordinary employees receive only 8,000 Afghanis.
This decision was made on September 30, 2025, by the Taliban’s Policy, Monitoring and Evaluation Deputy.
According to the “New Salary Norms and Other Benefits,” payments are organized into six categories and five steps, determined proportionally to each company’s revenue.
Companies with revenues above ten billion Afghanis are placed in the first category, with their officials receiving the highest salaries.
Employees of companies like Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat describe this scheme as unfair, saying their wages are insufficient even for daily living expenses.
They believe the Taliban group uses public funds to set high salaries for themselves while lower-ranking employees live in poverty and face constant threat of dismissal.
