On Sunday, December 7, the Kremlin welcomed President Donald Trump’s new US national security strategy, saying it largely aligns with Russia’s own views.
This marks the first time Moscow has so openly praised such a document from its former Cold War rival.
The strategy, signed by Trump, describes US policy as “pragmatic realism” and calls for reviving the 19th-century Monroe Doctrine to assert Washington’s influence over the Western Hemisphere.
It also warns of Europe’s “civilizational elimination” and highlights US interest in ending the Ukraine war while seeking strategic stability with Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the changes in the strategy match Russia’s perspectives, noting such broad agreement between Moscow and Washington is rare in global politics.
