Former MP Fawzia Koofi has welcomed the call by UN experts to include “gender apartheid” in the treaty on crimes against humanity. She urged member states to ensure the voices of Afghan women are heard during the drafting process.
UN human rights experts stated that creating an effective treaty is impossible without the direct participation of victims. They highlighted Afghanistan as a clear example of systematic discrimination requiring a strong legal response from the world.
Koofi emphasized that women must have a central role in the negotiations to prevent the normalization of restrictive policies. This move aims to hold perpetrators accountable for severe rights violations against women.
