Farid Hamidi, Afghanistan’s former Attorney General, has denounced the Taliban’s new penal code as a “verdict of condemnation” for the Afghan people, stating it effectively recognizes slavery in the 21st century.
He argued that the document institutionalizes discrimination and violence against women.
According to reports, the code stratifies society into four classes—scholars, nobles, middle, and lower class—with varying punishments for each.
Hamidi criticized the international community’s silence, saying it allows the Taliban to violate human dignity and divide citizens based on ethnicity and status.
Hamidi urged religious scholars to speak out against these policies or face disgrace.
He asserted that the document contradicts Islamic principles and serves only the personal and group goals of the Taliban leadership.
