Recent reports indicate that over the past month, the Taliban government has forced more than ten thousand university students in the western provinces to sign a strict pledge. This fourteen-point document mandates specific dress codes, growing a beard, and adhering to the Hanafi sect.
According to these documents, students are obligated to strictly observe the rules of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. The sixth article of the pledge explicitly requires students to officially and in writing declare themselves followers of the Hanafi sect.
Students have expressed frustration over the mounting pressure, stating they are compelled to attend religious propaganda seminars. Former university professors warn that this atmosphere of fear and intimidation will inevitably diminish the motivation of youth to pursue higher education.
