The crucial voting process took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York, with a total of one hundred and ninety ballots cast by member states. Rahman is set to succeed Annalena Baerbock, the former German foreign minister, who presided over the previous session of this significant international body.
The President of the UN General Assembly is responsible for guiding critical discussions on major global issues among the one hundred and ninety-three member states. The one-year term of this skilled Bangladeshi diplomat will officially commence with the start of the new assembly session in September of this current year.
