Esmatullah Mojaddedi, a former National Security Council advisor, has returned to Afghanistan after residing in Turkey for nearly five years. His return was facilitated by the Taliban government's contact commission for Afghan personalities.

Mojaddedi, the son of former President Sibghatullah Mojaddedi, left Afghanistan following the collapse of the republic system in August 2021. Upon his arrival, he expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made for his safe return to the country.

The Taliban government established this commission to encourage former political figures and officials to come back. However, the United Nations has repeatedly documented cases of arbitrary arrests and mistreatment of former government employees despite the declared general amnesty.
