Around two weeks ago, a group of 19 Afghan citizens attempting to illegally cross into Iran disappeared in the deserts of Nimroz province. The bodies of five were found in the Margo desert, and 14 others were discovered in the sandy plains of the Lalu desert.
The Taliban's National Disaster Management Authority announced it provided 20,000 Afghanis to each victim's family. The aid comes amid rising poverty, unemployment, and Iran's suspension of regular visa issuance for Afghan citizens, pushing many young people toward illegal migration routes.
This tragedy is one of many cases where Afghans have lost their lives attempting illegal crossings into Iran, once again highlighting Afghanistan's deepening migration crisis.
