Human rights organization Hengaw reported that Iran executed Afghan citizen Wali Jan Noorzaei in Rafsanjan prison. Noorzaei, who had a mobility disability, was executed while sitting in a wheelchair.
Noorzaei was arrested three years ago on murder charges and was seriously injured by gunfire. He spent three years in prison on a wheelchair before being executed from it. He was originally from Farah city in Afghanistan.
Since the Taliban returned to power, Iran has increased executions of Afghan citizens. According to statistics, 84 Afghans were executed in Iran in 2025.
