The Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI), an independent Norwegian research organisation, has warned that severe job constraints, economic instability, and social barriers threaten the future of Afghan youth.
According to a report released by CMI regarding the Afghanistan Week event in Oslo, Norway, investing in the young generation and supporting entrepreneurship are critical for the country's long-term stability.
The conference was organised in partnership with the Norwegian Committee for Afghanistan and international partners, bringing together young entrepreneurs, experts, and representatives to discuss livelihoods and economic resilience.
The report highlighted that Afghanistan possesses one of the youngest populations globally, making youth participation in business and economic activities essential for community development.
Afghan entrepreneurs who attended the discussions shared experiences about launching startups amid adversity, citing limited access to financial services, mentorship, and viable markets as major challenges.
Participants also emphasized utilizing the skills of returning Afghan refugees from neighbouring countries, urging international donors to integrate humanitarian relief with sustainable private sector and entrepreneurship initiatives.
