Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, head of the Taliban’s disaster management department, asked Japan to help Afghanistan without political considerations.

In a meeting with Takayoshi Kurumiya, Japan’s ambassador in Kabul, he said: “A large number of Afghan people face poverty and hardship and urgently need humanitarian assistance.”


The Taliban’s disaster management department announced on Sunday, September 7th, that Mullah Nooruddin Turabi met with Takayoshi Kurumiya in Kabul to discuss the situation of earthquake victims and expanding cooperation.

According to the statement, Mullah Nooruddin requested continued Japanese assistance to Afghanistan during this meeting.


The Taliban’s disaster management department says the Japanese ambassador promised that his country’s aid to Afghanistan will continue.

Din Mohammad Hanif, the Taliban’s economy minister, had also previously asked Japan to officially recognize the group’s administration to “strengthen economic, political and cultural relations.”
