Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced its intention to expand security cooperation with China in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the ministry’s newsletter, Russian and Chinese officials discussed on Friday, October 17th, the expansion of security cooperation in this region and Afghanistan issues.

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, also participated in this meeting.


Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that during the meeting with Chinese officials, the necessity of increasing coordination with China in regional areas such as security in the Asia-Pacific and Central Asia regions, the situation around Afghanistan, and developing relations with Africa was considered.

Russia has also sought to strengthen further cooperation with China in international forums including the United Nations, Security Council, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, APEC, ASEAN, G20, and other formats.


Moscow says Russia and China support strengthening the efforts of countries in the Global South and East and promote amplifying their voice in global governance mechanisms.

Russia and China have close diplomatic and economic relations with the Taliban group, but only Russia has officially recognized the Taliban.
